Over five days, travel from Kampala through Jinja and Sipi Falls before continuing north to Kidepo Valley National Park. Along the way, experience the Source of the Nile, the hills around Kapchorwa and the beautiful Sipi area before reaching one of Uganda’s most remote national parks.
Once in Kidepo, enjoy a full day of wildlife viewing with chances to see elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and lions. After your time in the wilderness, begin the journey back south, spending a night in Gulu before returning to Kampala.Your road trip starts early in the morning as you leave Kampala and head east towards Jinja.
Make a stop around the Source of the Nile and take some time to enjoy the area. If you would like to add a boat experience on the Nile, this can be arranged as an optional activity. Continue with the journey towards eastern Uganda, stopping for lunch along the way. In the afternoon, head towards Kapchorwa and Sipi Falls. The road takes you into the hills, with beautiful views of the countryside, coffee farms and valleys around Mount Elgon. Arrive in the Sipi area later in the afternoon and check in at your lodge. If time allows, take a short walk around the area or simply relax and enjoy the views of the waterfalls. If time allows, make a short visit to one of the nearby viewpoints before starting the long drive north towards Kidepo. Today is mostly about the road trip. Leave the hills of Kapchorwa behind and travel through northern Uganda, passing through towns, villages and wide open countryside. Stop for lunch along the way before continuing towards Kidepo Valley National Park. As you get closer to Kidepo, the landscape starts to change, becoming drier and more open. Wake up early, have breakfast and head into Kidepo Valley National Park for a full-day game drive. Explore the Narus Valley, one of the park's best areas for wildlife viewing. Look out for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, Uganda kobs and other antelopes. With some luck, you may also encounter lions and other predators during the day. Take a picnic lunch in the park before continuing your game drive into the afternoon. As the sun begins to go down, make your way back towards the lodge, enjoying the huge open landscapes that make Kidepo so different from Uganda's other parks. The drive gives you another chance to experience northern Uganda beyond the national park, passing through rural communities and changing landscapes. Stop for lunch along the way before continuing towards Gulu. Arrive in Gulu in the afternoon, check in and have some time to relax. If you still have the energy, you can explore a little of Gulu town in the evening. Continue south through the Ugandan countryside, with a stop along the way for lunch and refreshments. As you get closer to Kampala, the quiet countryside gradually gives way to busier towns and roads.
