This 3 Days / 2 Nights Gorilla Trekking Safari takes you from Kampala or Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to Uganda’s mountain gorillas. Travel through the beautiful countryside of southwestern Uganda, spend two nights near the forest and dedicate a full day to tracking a habituated gorilla family in its natural habitat. The safari is ideal for travellers looking for a short but unforgettable wildlife experience in Uganda.
Your adventure begins early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. Meet your Onyx Nature Safaris guide, have a short briefing and begin the journey southwest towards Bwindi.
The drive takes you through changing landscapes, from the busy surroundings of Kampala to the rolling hills, farms and countryside of southwestern Uganda. Along the way, enjoy a stop for breakfast or refreshments before continuing towards Bwindi. Depending on your route and time, you may stop for lunch along the way before continuing to the forest region. As you approach Bwindi, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic, with winding roads, green hills and beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Arrive at your lodge in the evening, check in and relax as you prepare for the following day's main adventure. Your guide will brief you about the gorilla trekking experience, what to carry and what to expect in the forest. Wake up early and enjoy breakfast before heading to the gorilla trekking briefing point. You will meet the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers and guides who will brief you about the trekking rules and safety guidelines. Once the briefing is complete, your trek begins. Enter the ancient Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and begin the search for your assigned gorilla family. The trek can take anywhere from a few hours to most of the day depending on where the gorillas are located. The forest is alive with sounds, vegetation and wildlife, and the journey itself is part of the experience. Your ranger will lead the way while explaining the forest and helping you understand signs of gorilla activity. When you finally find the gorillas, you will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to observe them in their natural environment. Watch them feed, play, groom and interact with one another while maintaining the required distance and following the ranger's instructions. The experience is limited to the permitted trekking time, after which you begin your journey back through the forest. Return to the lodge for a well-earned rest.
