This 2 Days / 1 Night Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari is a perfect short getaway for travellers who want to experience Uganda’s wildlife and beautiful landscapes. Enjoy game drives across the savannah in search of elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, lions and other wildlife, followed by a boat cruise along the famous Kazinga Channel, home to large numbers of hippos, crocodiles and water birds.
Your adventure begins early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. Meet your Onyx Nature Safaris guide, have a short briefing and begin the journey west towards Queen Elizabeth National Park.
As you leave Kampala behind, the scenery gradually changes from busy urban surroundings to Uganda’s countryside. Along the way, you’ll pass through local towns, villages, farms and beautiful landscapes as you make your way towards western Uganda.
Depending on the starting point and road conditions, the journey takes most of the morning. There will be opportunities to stop for breakfast, refreshments and photographs along the way.
Continue towards the Queen Elizabeth area, with possible views of the Rwenzori Mountains as you approach the park. The mountains are often referred to as the “Mountains of the Moon” and create a spectacular backdrop when the weather is clear.
Arrive in the Queen Elizabeth area around lunchtime and enjoy lunch at your lodge or a selected restaurant.
After lunch, check in and have a short rest before heading out for your first wildlife experience.
In the afternoon, set out for your first game drive through the Kasenyi Plains.
This open savannah area is a popular part of Queen Elizabeth for wildlife viewing. With your guide's knowledge of the park and its wildlife, you'll explore the plains in search of animals as they move through the grasslands.
Keep your eyes open for Uganda kobs, elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, waterbucks and other antelope species. The area can also provide opportunities to see lions and, with some luck, leopards.
Your guide will help you understand the behaviour of the animals and identify tracks, calls and other signs of wildlife along the way.
As the afternoon comes to an end, continue your drive towards the park exit and return to your lodge.
Enjoy dinner and relax for the evening.
Overnight: Lodge/Safari Camp
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Wake up early and enjoy breakfast at the lodge before starting your final day in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Set out for an early morning game drive when the temperatures are cooler and wildlife is often more active.
Your guide will take you through the park in search of wildlife and will choose the route based on recent sightings and the conditions on the day.
This is another opportunity to encounter elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs and other wildlife. Your guide will also keep an eye out for predators that may still be active in the morning.
After the game drive, continue towards the Kazinga Channel.
Later in the morning, experience one of the highlights of your safari — a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel.
The channel connects Lake Edward and Lake George and is famous for the large numbers of hippos and other wildlife that gather along its shores.
From the boat, you'll have an excellent opportunity to photograph hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes and a variety of water birds. Keep your camera ready as animals often come down to the water to drink.
The cruise also provides a completely different perspective of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Instead of watching wildlife from a safari vehicle, you'll be viewing the animals from the water as they go about their daily lives.
After the boat cruise, return to the lodge or a suitable restaurant for lunch before checking out.
Begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe in the afternoon.
Enjoy the changing scenery as you travel back through western Uganda, with stops along the way for refreshments and photographs where appropriate.
Arrive in Kampala or Entebbe in the evening, marking the end of your 2 Days / 1 Night Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari.
